Pray Your Way Through Ephesians- Eph. 4

March 29, 2024

We are continuing to pray our way through the book of Ephesians. This book is such an excellent guide to perform an overhaul on our lives. There are practical and foundational ways to pray to ensure we are living pleasing lives that look like Jesus. And that’s what we want right?! We want to look like Jesus and we want to please the heart of the Father. It’s like when you desire to make someone happy because of your love and admiration for them. It’s not that we are trying to earn our way into God’s goodness or into salvation because that’s not possible. It is simply about when you love someone you desire to please them. It flows outward from within us when we love another. In our expression of our true love for God we want to live our lives in a way that pleases His heart and makes Him happy. Let’s take a look at Ephesians 4 today.

Ephesians 4 SUMMARY

In this chapter Paul has a main point of explaining that we are ONE body and we are to mature into that understanding. Many people often have the me, myself, and I mentality, but when we become born again and enter into the kingdom of God we have to drop that self directed way of living. As members of the body of Christ we are now in Christ. Therefore, we are now all part of ONE body and we must pursue to live in love and unity with each other. This is the complete, mature way of living. Paul then goes on to talk about how through Jesus we are to put off our old, corrupted nature and put on the righteousness of God. Paul also speaks of the renewed kingdom directed thinking. Paul continues to teach us that righteousness is to shape our whole being - our actions, our words, our attitudes. Pray the below prayer adapted from Ephesians 4!

Ephesians 4 PRAYER

Father, help me renew my mind to the more mature and complete way of thinking. Help me view myself as a part of the body of Christ and not as a separate entity only living with regard for myself. Help me to love with Your love, the body of Christ and live in unity with it. Also, teach me so that I truly understand how to put off “my old, corrupted self” and how to put on “my new self.” I want to understand how to live righteous and holy in all areas of life so I do not grieve the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name, Amen.

It can be a little challenging to understand the idea of living as ONE body in Christ. Also understanding living as our new selves in all things ‘righteousness and holiness’ can be difficult to grasp with our natural minds. But the good news is that we have the Holy Spirit to teach us (1 John 2:20,27). One of the main jobs of the Holy Spirit is to teach us how to live like Jesus. When we pray for understanding on this, we are giving an opening to the Holy Spirit to teach us and enable us to do so. So pray this and expect to gain the understanding that will change you, so you can have this Word become reality in your life!

I like to close each teaching with an invitation to salvation for anyone that has not yet welcomed Jesus into their life. Maybe you’ve read this and felt a pull on your heart. Maybe you’re in a place where you just need a solution. If so, this was meant for you and if you’re ready for the “moreness” of God, then believe in your heart and say out loud the following prayer: “Jesus, I repent for my sins, please forgive me for living a life apart from You. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for my sins and were raised to life again. I confess you as Lord over my life. Take my life and do something with it. And I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name amen.”

It’s as simple as that. Welcome to the family! That is solely the most important decision you will ever make. If you prayed that prayer, please send us an email and let us know. We would love to help get you connected to a Life-filled church in your area and help you get started on your journey of “moreness” with God.
