Merry Merry Christmas dear friends! This time of year no doubt is so full of long to-do lists! So much of our attention during this time goes to the many things that need done. While none of the presents, holiday parties, Christmas cookies and shopping are bad, they do seem to clutter our minds and take our time. So this week, on Christmas Eve Eve, as you enter the weekend full of celebration, take a brief but meaningful moment with me to look at Jesus.
For just a moment, allow the true weightiness of what it really meant for Jesus to WILLINGLY step into a flesh body and take on human form. Then to live His life sinless, with every craving and temptation as a human. And finally, give Himself, His body, His soul as a sacrifice FOR YOU and ME. If He did not do so, you and I would be on a definite journey with no future, no hope. Bound for a godless eternity of suffering. But Jesus stepped down from glory, a perfect matchlessly beautiful heaven, and came to a dirty and perverted world to dwell among men, those who turned their backs on Him. He did this so that He could carry every weight of your debt and penalty that you owed and in return gave you HIS reward and HIS inheritance. That reward and inheritance gave you eternity in heaven, healing for your sickness and brokenness, freedom from your debt and addiction, and peace for your mind (just to name a few). There is not one single good deed or price paid that you could have ever offered, to achieve the victory that He did.
1 Timothy 1:15-17 NLT, “This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of His great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in Him and receive eternal life. All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; He alone is God. Amen.”
Take a second, close your eyes, connect in your heart. And tell Jesus, thank you, thank you, thank you, for doing all You did for me. Recognize Him and what was accomplished by Him 33 years after His birth which we will celebrate this weekend. The act of selfless ‘agape’ love that made it possible for all the gifts, parties, and cookies.
I pray that you have the best Christmas with your loved ones full of joy, peace, and gratitude. Merry Christmas!
