The Peaceful Place

September 1, 2023

There is a peaceful place for you, hidden away from the snares of the enemy. A place to live free of the same turmoils this world faces. It is a place where it doesn’t matter who is elected, what the economy looks like, how much groceries cost, what the doctor’s report is, or what life-altering decision you may be facing. There is a place of peace for you to abide, it is the secret place. A place under the shadow of the Almighty. This week’s devotional is going to be short, sweet, and to the point. I want to show you how to live in perfect peace in a world that is constantly in turmoil and swirling around with bad news. Something I have realized over my time with Jesus is that He has never once let me down. I have never run out of money or food, even when circumstances could definitely have gone that way. Seasons of heartbreak or burnout never took me out. When satan tried multiple times to take my dad’s life in very serious ways, my dad did not die, he lives declaring the works of our God. When major life changes and decisions have reared their heads, they have always turned out immeasurably more amazing than I ever thought possible. When I thought that I had lost all because I made mistakes, I recovered all and seven times more than was stolen. I could go on and on… what I am trying to say is that it is not to turn out badly for the people of God. The devastating end is not the plan for those of us who call Jesus “Lord.” The one thing I will say is of the utmost importance when walking this walk, is learning the practice of abiding in the secret place. This “peaceful place” I am referring to will only be your reality when you abide and keep your eyes on Jesus. Think about Peter. Peter sank right into the “devastating end” when he took his eyes off Jesus. That same thing can happen to us.

To remain in the peaceful place, the secret place, under the shadow of the Almighty, we must keep our focus on Jesus. You might say, “What does that look like?” And may already know the answer. It looks like keeping your eyes on the Word and staying close in His presence by prayer and praise. The Word of God is literally life to us, (Proverbs 4:22). It is full of each and every solution that we have need of and it is brimming with the promises we hope to see fulfilled in our lives. Abide in the Word. Dwell there and place your focus there. When you do it is the same as abiding directly in Jesus. Jesus is the Word. When you abide in Jesus, then prayer and praise become very natural and easy. Eventually, they flow from you subconsciously as you live your life in the spirit. These are simple things most Christians might say, “Oh yeah I know that.” But pay attention to the difference in the way your inner person feels and reacts and dwells when you are abiding in the Word throughout each day compared to days when you are not? There is a significant difference. You will find the results astounding.

Let’s close with Psalm 91:1-2, AMPC, “HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!”

I like to close each teaching with an invitation to salvation for anyone that has not yet welcomed Jesus into their life. Maybe you’ve read this and felt a pull on your heart. Maybe you’re in a place where you just need a solution. If so, this was meant for you and if you’re ready for the “moreness” of God, then believe in your heart and say out loud the following prayer: “Jesus, I repent for my sins, please forgive me for living a life apart from You. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for my sins and were raised to life again. I confess you as Lord over my life. Take my life and do something with it. And I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name amen.”

It’s as simple as that. Welcome to the family! That is solely the most important decision you will ever make. If you prayed that prayer, please send us an email and let us know. We would love to help get you connected to a Life-filled church in your area and help you get started on your journey of “moreness” with God.
