Words Work

Find it, Believe it, Speak it

Words are Powerful

Welcome back for week 2, I am so excited to be sharing this with you! Now that we are hooked into receiving this life of “more” that our Savior secured for us, let’s take some time to dive into some how-to’s. I am one that loves messages that are practical and show me how it looks in real life. So I am going to give some Biblical and practical ways to experience the moreness of God.

The most important lesson I have learned is the power of words. This Biblical principle has greatly impacted the trajectory of my life. The power of our words touches every single part of our lives and the sooner we get a hold on them and really comprehend what they do, the sooner we can start affecting our circumstances with them!

First and foremost let’s take a look at this most important scripture as we start diving into the power of our words:

Mark 11:23 AMPC: Truly I tell, whoever says to this mountain, be lifted up and thrown into the sea! And does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.

Mark 11:23 NKJV: For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

The verse says, WHOEVER says and does not doubt but believes what he says, it will come to pass. “Whoever” sounds a lot like me and alot like you. I love how straight forward and simply Jesus puts this. I’ve made up my mind that if the Word says it, I can have it. And if Jesus says, if I say it and believe it and it will be done for me, then that’s exactly what I am gonna do!

About 4 years ago, during my senior year of college I became engaged to a fella I had been dating. It was a very hush hush situation and not many people knew. We had planned a future, made promises, and were getting everything in place for our life post-graduation. He was from California and was set to go visit home for a few weeks before meeting me back on the East Coast to move into our post-grad plans. About 2 weeks after graduation I received a call that, at the time - I felt, completely ruined my life. He had decided to call things off and not come back to the East Coast. You can imagine the pain and heartache that situation caused me. All my dreams and plans for the future were crushed. The person I thought I would spend forever with left me. I couldn't see a way forward and was drowning in grief. I remember thinking as I sat on the ground in tears, “the only way out of this is with God.” So what did I do next? My mom and I got into the Word of God and found scripture that spoke about what I needed. My mom wrote them out on paper, I highlighted them in my Bible, and I started to speak. Over the following days, there was not a moment I did not have those scriptures with me. It didn’t matter where I was, the moment the pain got too much, I would speak out loud, the Word of God over myself and my circumstances. I was on vacation and I would carry those verses and say them in whatever store I was in, or whatever restaurant, I spoke these Life giving words. I may have been crying but I was also speaking through those tears. I didn't give much time to talking about how bad it hurt or how awful the situation was. But I gave almost all my time to speaking the Life filled Words of God. I can vividly remember, exactly 2 weeks after this all happened, I felt the darkness and depression lift off from me. Suddenly, I could breathe and I distinctly remember the feeling of freedom to laugh again. I wholeheartedly believe that if I had not chosen to speak only what the Word of God said about me in my circumstances, that my breakthrough moment either would have never come or it would have taken much longer to happen. The power of our words is real.

The first step in using our words to experience the “moreness” in life, is finding out what the Word says about your situation. You need Gods Words to speak into your life. During that time, I needed healing, I needed joy, I needed peace, I needed to know that there was a future for me. So I had to go see what the Word had to say about those things and speak that only. The great thing is that the Bible covers anything and everything you would ever need or face. You would be hard pressed to find something that it doesn’t give you a promise of or a solution to!

God is a creative Spirit and we are made in His image. He created all of creation with words. We receive our salvation by confessing with our words that Jesus is Lord. But it’s not just the words themselves that make the difference, it’s what fuels them that makes them move mountains. The fuel to our words is faith. Just like gas makes your car go, faith makes your words work. And we actually have to believe what we are speaking for it to work. Now, I know sometimes we don’t feel like believing because whatever situation we are looking at doesn't seem like it could ever turn around. But sometimes we have to get ourselves there. It says in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So sometimes we gotta preach to ourselves the Word till we believe it. Get your teaching tapes out or a faith filled podcast and get the Word flowing day and night. It will get your faith growing and get it ready to fuel the words you're speaking!

Once you’ve found your promise in the Word that you are standing on, and now that you’ve got your faith stirred up, it’s time to speak! Write them down and carry them with you everywhere. It takes some tenacity, but whenever an opposing negative thought or feeling comes up, speak that truth. Whenever the pressure is on and you have the urge to talk about how terrible the situation is, speak that Word truth instead. Do it and keep doing it until you see it come to pass in your life.

James 3:4-5 NKJV says “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” A rudder is a small flat piece on the rear of a ship. When you turn the rudder it directs the water in a different direction causing the whole massive ship to change its direction! It takes a little time for the newly changed water pressure to shift the whole sea vessel onto its new course. BUT if you keep the pressure on the water with the rudder, that ship surely does shift! And that is exactly how our faith-filled words affect our lives. The words you are speaking over whatever it is you are facing is putting pressure on the water in one way or the other and is moving you in that direction. If our faith-filled words move us toward the promises of God coming to pass then our negative confessions also move us towards being stuck in the same spot and letting satan have his way on the matter. Sure, it’s not always super easy to speak life to a situation that looks like death. Our flesh naturally wants to revel in the pain, the complaining, the negativity, because that’s the easier thing to do. But we are called to fight the good fight of faith in this life. In Ephesians 6:14-17 NKJV it says “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD.” Our weapon is our words. In the midst of the battle we wield our sword by speaking the Word of God.

I know that you may be looking at a situation and really not knowing how it could ever look differently. The circumstances look grim. Maybe it looks like the devastating end is about to become your reality. But this is what the Word of God says:

Romans 4:17-21 AMPC “As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations. [He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed. [For Abraham, human reason for] hope being gone, hoped in faith that he should become the father of many nations. As he had been promised, So [numberless] shall your descendants be. He did not weaken in faith when he considered the [utter] impotence of his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about a hundred years old, or [when he considered] the barrenness of Sarah’s [deadened] womb. No unbelief or distrust made him waver (doubtingly question concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God, fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and to do what He had promised.”

Even though the circumstances that Abraham was facing looked like the total opposite of what God promised him, he believed what God said above what he saw. And that is exactly what we need to do. Believe that God is going to come through on exactly what He promised to you in His Word no matter what it looks like. If God did it for Abraham, He will do it for you. Same God, same faith.

We are to be imitators of God, so we can speak those nonexistent things as though they already existed!

Do you need money to cover a bill, pay a debt or maybe you just want some time away and need the money? Speak those to those nonexistent things as though they exist.

• “My God will liberally supply and fill to the full my every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

• “As I delight myself in the Lord, He will give me the desires and secret petitions of my heart!” (Psalm 37:4)

Are you facing an illness or malfunction in your body? Speak to those nonexistent things as though they exist.

• “With the stripes that wounded Jesus I am healed and made whole!” (Isaiah 53:5)

• I gratefully praise You, Lord and do not forget all Your benefits. You forgive all my iniquities and heal all my diseases. You redeem my life from the pit and corruption. You beautify, dignify, and crown me with lovingkindness and tender mercy. You satisfy my mouth with good things, so my youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2-5)

Is your mind a mess and always running over with fear and anxiety? Speak those to those nonexistent things as though they exist.

• “I will not fret or have anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, continue to make my requests known to God. God’s peace, which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7)

• “I cast the whole of my care [all my anxieties, all my worries, all of my concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for me affectionately and cares about me watchfully.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Need freedom from depression and for joy to rise up on the inside of you? Speak those to those nonexistent things as though they exist.

• “I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety.” (Psalm 16:8-9)

• “My God fills me with all joy and peace and that by power of the Holy Spirit I may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope.” (Romans 15:13)

The list goes on. Like I said, the Bible covers it all. You can find your deliverance in the powerful Word of God. Write it down, preach it to yourself till you believe it and speak it! Hold on to it until you see it and don't grow weary in well doing! It may not look or feel like it can change but I promise it will change.

We receive the moreness of God and life through speaking it into existence. Words are our weapon, they're our rudder, they’re our life changers. Speak your joy in, speak your peace in, speak your abundance in, speak your healing in, speak your freedom from addiction in, speak your husband in, speak your new job in, speak your solution in! I’ve seen it time and time again in my own life. As soon as I stop giving my words over to the enemy to use against me and start wielding my Word sword, my situation shifts. And it will shift for you too.

I like to close each teaching with an invitation to salvation for anyone that has not yet welcomed Jesus into their life. Maybe you’ve read this and felt a pull on your heart. Maybe you’re in a place where you just need a solution. If so, this was meant for you and if you’re ready for the “moreness” of God, then believe in your heart and say out loud the following prayer: “Jesus, I repent for my sins, please forgive me for living a life apart from You. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for my sins and were raised to life again. I confess you as Lord over my life. Take my life and do something with it. And I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name amen.”

It’s as simple as that. Welcome to the family! That is solely the most important decision you will ever make. If you prayed that prayer, please send us an email and let us know. We would love to help get you connected to a Life-filled church in your area and help you get started on your journey of “moreness” with God. You can reach us via email at the bottom of each page.
